You give me Your shield of victory, [we fight, in His power and for His Name, a battle that He has already won] and Your right hand sustains me.” It is an insult to God when we let our guard down and our enemy rushes in because we’ve “spurned the Son of God…profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and…outraged the Spirit of grace?
” It is also because Jesus conquered death and crucified with Him the curse of sin (the wrath of God) for those whom He chose from the foundation of the world.
So, instead of “in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to detect or hate his sin” let’s live like Christ by focusing on and talking about Christ and considering “how to stir up one another to love and good works.” Instead of speaking evil against others, let us pray that the things we see in them may be dealt with by the Lord alone who has the power to turn hearts to Him.
“Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.” (Proverbs ) Psalm 16:8, “I have set the Lord always before me.
The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.” We are guaranteed to lack no good thing when we fear Him and seek Him.
I found myself this semester suffering from want and hunger, in many senses of the words.
Also gossip (Leviticus , Romans , Psalm 15:3), lying (Proverbs - 19), and boasting in anything but the Lord (Romans , Jeremiah -24). It’s not “no gossip unless they hurt you, they talk about you, you’ve told them this to their face, they’re younger/older than you, they’re leaders/famous…” We can come up with so many reasons that we think justify our sin. Jesus’ blood alone can atone for our sin, and He had to be perfect in order to do that.Psalm 34 gives simple and practical instruction, “Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” Keep your tongue from evil and deceit. We must affirm constantly “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven” to continually remind us of our purpose here- to be made like Jesus Christ.“Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.” (Proverbs ) Colossians says to, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” So how do we put away perversity and corrupt talk from our mouths?
